Monday Moaning: City Rush!
This is not just about rush hour but the everyday events that happen all around us at every given moment and for some strange reason need to be done quicker and quicker.
I mean just the other day a parcel was being delivered across the street. Nothing special right. Except that our street is one way without sidewalks and wide enough for a single car and a pedestrian or two. Next to that I live around 30 yards from a corner, just to give a small insight of the situation. You can see people turn into the street and one has enough time to assess the distance ahead. Thus one can see the truck before going into the street. Large and bulky.
So as while the parcel was being delivered at the side entrance of a house a driver took a turn and stepped on the brakes and as he wasn’t even at a stand still he started honking. Now if one would think that was it you are so wrong. From my side One could see the delivery man walking back and hear the car at the same time pull his gear into reverse and backed up. Now as the car drove off at the corner to take a detour the driver of the truck climbed in and went on with his job.
Can you imagine my jaw. How my big toe had felt when it dropped from 5 feet up. My heart breath stalled.
The situation from start to finished may not have lasted longer than 5 minutes. That is the moment the delivery car stopped to the moment it pulled away. 5 minutes of a workers life taken 30 years of the man behind the wheel full of anger as he drove backwards.
Sure if this is new I would say whatever. Give the guy a break he is only doing his job. But more and more we are losing patience. We are in a constant rush and can’t let someone else do their job because you have to hurry to do yours or whatever the reason may be to be in a hurry.
Could it be we instinctively think the world is too full to even have some compassion for others. That we can’t blow a tune while waiting, so instead we are ramming on a horn or even yell.
Does everyone have a short fuse, what is on our mind when we tap our feet in line to get a coffee. How come we get agitated when someone takes seconds to decide what they will have while they had all the time while being in que. (me included knowing full well that 90% of the people always have the same and still look up the board the moment it is our turn.)
Or we tap our fingers on our this when we see people reaching in for their money and count their change. You could have done so before, again you always have the same.
Frustration is everywhere we go. And it is consuming us to the point of truly losing it as it seems like that driver. And for what I do ask myself. Standing in line I try not to get agitated anymore or frustrated. When I do grocery shopping I know I won’t be done in 5 minutes so why lose a year of my life if it takes 10 minutes longer.
Clearly if we stop here it would be great. We can change this but for some reason I do not think we are that laid back. Or even willing to slow down.
Our system has always been, time is money. And now even more so than before. Since production processes have gained speed so has our income. But in order to keep up we need to rush as well.
We do not have time to nurture and work for our carrot. No we buy in bulk. We do not have time to make a lamb of shoulder. NO we want steak within 5 minutes. Why bother cooking when we can have our microwave do it in a single minute. Just to have an example.
To top it off we want to do to much in very little time and if one would sit at the end of the day to see what they done. One might have a big shock to see that most the time was spend frustrating and maybe nagging about it on their social media, or just watching TV.
Even the games these days. I means seriously.
I am talking about the Role Playing Games. There were days I could spend hours grinding for a level, figuring out puzzles or how to get the best gear. Games like these still exist but are beginning to become a novelty or so it seems.
Since the introduction of phones and app these games have changed dramatically to a low if you ask me. They have an AUTOPLAY/Fight/Path. If one does not understand what it means that is okay. Gaming is just turn it on and watch the sequence happen. This is the game. You can do all day while doing something else. And brag you reach level 30 in a day. For real.
Now the RPG as I know in a way were linear as they had a story to follow. But it would not move unless I moved. Now the same linear gameplay is a video you can pause so you could control your character.
As a gamer I am ashamed we even came up with that bullshit. It means squad to play a game. And if it is a game you have to work hard and grind more hours than working. You can’t since the day only holds 24 hours. Never stopped me though, I had my fill of sleepless nights, lol.
Why are we in such a rush all the time?
Unable to hold a conversation longer than 140 characters. Also since we already read half of it there is less to talk about.
A world in rush. One sigh after another coming all the from your pinky toe. When you wait for your coffee and breakfast, you could have eaten at home. In peace without the rush of the world.
Our lungs have grown enormous thanks to all that deep breathing for a single sigh. And we do nothing with it.
If one would ask me I think we are truly losing our minds and going crazy. Complaining about the things missed since it was all in a blur or we were to busy doing something else. Slowing down is not of this day. We have to work work work.
But we rather work sitting down. Yeah because in the end of the day we are rather lazy than tired. And if we are tired it is because of all that sighing and stressing over the fact someone was just doing their job.
Sigh! Here is to hard work and cold beers.
