“Hiii.” The reaction was childish as the little hare jumped back from the rail and grabbed onto one of the highest rung she could reach. Without a sliver of fear she went up one step after another, even stopping after 5 steps to look behind her and see the large island being left behind.

It was when her eyes looked down she saw Hiiro still standing still and not even made an attempt to reach for the ladder. His cheeks were painted red beneath the hand that was covering his eyes. “You not coming?”

He girl shouted with all her might to make sure her question would reach him. The cold wind swept through her words. They were the first she spoke towards Hiiro in confidence as if to acknowledge his good spirit.

“I cannot Missy. Me in the rags up there. You go find a puffyduck.” An eye peeked through two fingers to watch her continue her climb further up. The dress caught a gush of wind and was blown up her black slender legs. His fingers squeezed tight as he saw the hem slide up her thigh. ‘Hiiro go home to wife.Promised, No tempting little girl.’ His mind told himself he is a good man to keep his promise.

The real fact was that Hiiro is truly a gentle soul and always willing to help others. Hough his wife may be another story. Her figure is even bigger than his, her arms covered by golden blonde hair hide her true power. Muscles to carry a tree in a single hand. Always misunderstanding her husband’s intentions and drag him home if he had helped a young lady again.

To her there was no excuse, he married her and she would make sure he would stay with her. Even this moment would be enough to have her explode in jealousy. Unwilling to reason or listen he would lose to her strength. He gave in because he simply loved her with all his being, but that is not what she saw. He was flirting with younger, slender girls. One time she grabbed a tree and snapped it when she saw him get a flower from a girl which pet he had helped from a tree.

Ever since then there had been a rumour in the tribe that wherever Hiiro roamed a monster would appear. A vengeful shriek would scare everything away and sweep him from his place to be dragged back home.

He sighed and gave one last look up just to see the little girl climb over the railing of the upper deck. With a relieved heart his eyes gaze back at the castle. ‘Me is sorry coming home again Greta.’

With a startled face he turns around and looked up again. “Me never got name of Missy!” With his final words her resumes back through the opening down the stairs to continue his job.

All the while the little hare was patting her dress to adjust to its right form and clean a little dirt of. Peoples gazes looked in surprise as to wonder where this little girl came from.

Kingdom of Crestoria! 33

I can’t help but love how this is developing and how characters gain their own soul, if you will. Never sure how a character will react until I am writing it down. All I know is where I want to go, just not know how I will get there.

In front of the worker stood a frail looking girl with her back towards him. Her body froze on the discovery and his words. “Oya Missy, You okay?” He reached out and grabbed on to her shoulder with is lightest touch. It was that his hand was large and heavy with black dirty nails broken and cracked, long fur covered its fingers and  back, making the person cringe with fear. “Me won’t hurt you. You’d be lost, one can help you!”

He felt her move and took away his hand while she turned around with a slight tremble. Her chin forced down to her chest between two shoulders that been pulled up in shame. It wasn’t until she rolled her eyes up and forced to raise her head a little that the sailor could take a good look at her.

There stood a girl  with short black hair and to hare’s ears grabbed together between her praying fist. On each end was a white ribbon tied in a bow. Eyes so blue you could see the sky and oceans melt together around a black sun. They draw you away from anything else like the small twitching pink nose in between them. The tiny hands were covered with white cloves.

“You cannot speak? That be hard. Me be Hiiro.” His frown showed he was in deep a thought right before he pressed his thumb against his chest and laughed a little. A chest pumped up from large breathe he looked down on the small girl.

Her eyes followed his every move and ended up looking up to his smiling face. It may have been a small glint but it was enough for her to finally speak up. “I… I’m Sorry.!”

Within a blink she bended over and sprung back even faster into an upright position. It let her ears flow free through the sky like two rags before they dropped quietly across her shoulders revealing a little more of her chest and dress she was wearing.

“Come, where can Hiiro take you?” With a simple gesture he guided the little girl up the stairs and out a small door leading into narrow hallway. The little girl followed silently. Her steps could not be heard and had Hiiro look around on many occasion to make sure she was still there. A second set of stairs came into view and they both climbed up. A small opening had them step onto one of the lower ends of the ship. A small plateau beneath the main quarter deck connected by a steep ladder.

She stood near the rail and leant over with big surprised eyes and a sense of excitement. “So Pretty… we are really flying…” Laughs of an innocent child are hushed into the wind. Her hands desperately hold on to her large ears that want to flap free in this cold breeze.

“You better be careful now climbing up, Missy. We can’t have you fall down now.”

Kingdom of Crestoria! 32

Princess Adelina kept silent an started to eat the abundance of food in front of us. Duncan just watched her and understood what she tried to tell him. Never been taught how to socialize with people, only able or shown how to order around servants. Not to mention her warrior instinct that constantly has to rival with large brutes of men. It was that thought of that little girl to beat up those with a big mouth. Eyes that would look down on the defeated and have her soar even higher without sense of humble.

To hide he joins the princess and stuffs his cheeks with meat and rotates his head to watch a land drops straight down. The black rocks shines and glistens from water left by the roaring waves that crashed into it. To him it was an unusual sight to see. Taller than a flat the sides are made of spiked columns and cracks created sharp edges that cut into the oncoming waves.

“I’m Sorry, I guess..” Adelina sighed holding on to a cup filled with water. A dreamy gaze watched the ripples created by  one of her fingers tapping.

-“I guess so to…” A bit uneasy Duncan answers with a tiny voice before returning to look outside and the island getting smaller. “How long is the trip again?” The question was like thunder bursting into the awkward silence.

“We be there by morning, I think” Princess Adelina turns her eyes away from Duncan while she answers. Time passes on slowly as we drink the last drop of water from the decanter.

In the mean while on another part of the ship a suspicious person is making the craziest manoeuvres like rolls and turns to avoid gazes of the personnel that are at work in the lower regions of the ship. At the same time he was looking for something, checking tags that had been placed on all luggage and crates. Near the stairs the dark figure tapped his flat hand against a side and hid behind the large box.

The woods cracks and splinters by a force. Some loaders look up and rotate their ears but go back to their work when the usual sounds of the cargo hold. A stumble and a shuffle of crates, trunks and screams over power the cracking from down the stairs.

Not before long another person came walking from the other side and walking up the stairs. The attire had changed dramatically from a baggy pants and simple shirt and hiding the face with a large scarf. This person was to over dressed to be considered a worker on the ship. Even a near by muscular sailor was alarmed by the view. “Ooy. Oy, Whattah you been doin’ all thee way down ‘ere, Missy! You’d be lost now, wouldn’t yah?”

Let us continue the story of Duncan and Princess Adelina and the journey they set out to make and safe the world from evil.

Duncan did his utmost best to avoid saying anything that could possibly explode in his face and have this plate of food as well find its way to the floor. Such a waist all that glorious food. Multi coloured fruit like a palette neatly arranged to form a rainbow around its edge. In its middle cuts of meat were layered in a beautiful fan. Red, pink, drizzle with a dark brown sauce and a white that glistened from its moisture.

It was a mouthwatering sight and had Duncan change his focus for but a short second.

“So you was saying…?” The princess just started the conversation again.

With an uneasy smile and sweat pouring he just looked across the plate and swallowed away the accumulated saliva. “Should we not eat first?” He knitted his brows together and pulled the corner of his lips up into a forced smile. With eyes closed the tension inside him had him stop his breathing.

“Did I not say  wasn’t …” A growl from her tummy overruled her snarly remark. “You can talk while we eat.

-“Hè heh hè.” How could he not feel uneasy hearing such a thing. Duncan wasn’t good at this. Somehow he had managed but she… she. The brain came to a hold and exploded in confusion.

“I… I never heard of that nickname…” Duncan stalled his and took a deep breath.

-“Spit it out already, dumbass.” The princess shown her animal side as she ripped a piece of meat clean from a bone. Her teeth scratched across the surface. The sound of it made the hair in your neck stand straight up and scared little Duncan pale as a ghost.

The voice trembled heavy. “You do have a short temper Princess, Adelina … Miss. I mean, look at the roar in prison and that time you tried to kill me in the arena”

Duncan’s breathing stopped right there and then. Everything he wanted to say came out in a waterfall of words. It took just a piece of what looked like an apple to have him breath life. The crunch of his teeth that sunk into the fruit had its juices spilling out and drip across his chin.

Surprised by his answer the princess stopped and dropped the bone on the plate. But instead of her usual rage and roars she looked down at her greasy hands. There it was again.

A small blush that coloured her cheeks pink through all that fur. Unexpectedly she changed in front of Duncan. “You fool. You sure do not hold back when being honest, do you.”

-“Sorry, what…?”

Her gaze drifts away towards the window as she continues in a somewhat embarrassing tone. “I know, you are right. I never… Grubb tried to… Look, I… I JUST DON”T KNOW OKAY.” It was like a switch that got flipped to change her demeanour to on who stuffed pieces of sliced meat into her mouth and had her cheeks rounded up as if she was hamstering for an upcoming winter and underneath it all let out a inaudible whisper. “I wafent…”

We felt a sack of air roll and tumble inside our stomach. It had us stop and look silently at each other, while the scenery from our window was slowly changing. The ship had started to fly.

Duncan snickered hearing her belly roar from hunger and took a step closer to the princess. Turned towards the window he didn’t notice her face look back right at him. He just stood there with that forced smile to hide his nerves. Eyes shut tight and his fingers scratching behind his head.

He never was any good talking to girls, unable to listen he would just lose focus and stare with a flustered grimace. Shy and silent he would walk the streets to and from school. Counting the tiles or maybe the seconds it took to show the tip of his shoe with each step. Nobody knew what went on in his mind. Grades were all so, so.

The looks might have been something if he worked on it, but he never really cared. Hair was all over the place and droopy eyes deprived from sleep as he had spend another night playing games. Friends could be counted on a single finger.

Garry was the only one who would get words tumbling from Duncan’s lips and was always full of energy. He knew the other side of Duncan, when in game. If one would think he would become the complete opposite you would be mistaken.

No. Duncan was able to just talk freely.

Though he never been in a situation with a girl and a princess at that. It made him uneasy and unsure what he could say and do. Clearly he would not want to be on her bad side.

Looking down to his right he seen the seats and set down, slowly getting comfortable and find the princess looking his way. ‘Did I do something…’ His head swiffled left and right rubbing his hand underneath his body to see if he might have sat on something.

“You are weird!” The princess just blurred it out before returning back to her earlier position and look outside. “Do you think also think I am the ‘Raging Princess’ like many of them call me? I do know that nickname that has been given before.”

If the situation could have become any more awkward it was at this time. As it put Duncan in a very dangerous place.

‘I never heard of that nickname. It does suit her. No, no. I cannot think like that. What to do?’

Memories of his childhood shot through his mind. A mother and a child always smiling. He knew he could just say anything without getting them angry. This princess sure puts him in a corner.

“I never heard of such name…”

I was quickly interrupted by a knock on the door and Cartoo entering holding up a plate of food in front him he quickly placed on the table between us.

“Thank you Cartoo.”

-“You was saying…” Her voice sure knew how to set a dark and ominous mood. As if she knew I was going to say something about her attitude. And to be honest she wasn’t wrong.

Duncan swallowed and took a deep breath.
