Build a better future?
After a reading a post yesterday by The Culture Monk I had me a thought for this post. Maybe a kind of follow up but I will not be he judge of that. I suggest you read his post, it is a good one that does make you think. Hope he doesn’t mind me using his post for one of my own, just that I had so much on my mind.

Good Old Days, we never cared how we looked
So it is about the good old day. How good were they really and how far back is the good old days. Is it in your own life time or that of a written past. But what does the good old days teach us? Why do we keep looking back as if everything was better then? And what do we look at, do we look at the nice things or also the bad things?
These are questions that rose up from that post and when you have questions you start to look for answers, well I do.
Well going back in my own life time, I would have to say it was nice. We were still able to leave a rope out the door for the kids who were still able to play outside without fear. It was the 2 years after Elvis past away that give me my first memories. But those are my memories. And I think I can consider them good, till I got older and started to understand politics. Being a bully or a friend or even protector. Hunter and hunted. Druggy or buddy. It is what made me to be what I am today. But I learned a lot in those time and changed to become what I think is a better person.
Now that is a personal memory. What if I have look globally. It isn’t all that good. Vietnam war only ended a couple of years and the Cold war kept on between USA and the USSR. Any minute a global war was possible. Was it all that good. The microcomputer revolutions started, now that is two sided. We are happy it happened but also nervous of what we found out and brought to light. More news no coming through, through the media we know today. Bombs going of here and there set by IRA or another radical group. Still feeling the economy crisis from the years before.
Being born in mid 70’s is maybe a blessing. Lots changed during those years. But not for the better, I might add. We became more greedy.
Now that is just looking back about 40 years and those are my good old days. And being the rebel by doing everything mom and dad didn’t want me to.
If we look further back in time, can we still speak of the good old days. I am sure some will say yes. But how far back are we going to look back? Looking at a time before I was born. Times we were ignorant and just killed and burned parts of nature, because we needed the space. With out thought just killing for pleasure not food.
Further back we looking at countries without a white man. According the written or drawn messages, we can say we lived of the land and worshiped the land for what it gave us. Can we say that was good. We know to little about it, but I think we were more in balance. Some how it has been forgotten.
So what are the good old days or how far back? Can we say we learned from our ancestors and are not making the same mistakes again. No, we still raging wars. We still feel jealous. We still judge on perceptions. So how far back would you like the good old days to go, or do we need change. So on the post I mentioned above I came up with the following.
“instead of comparing to the past we should consider keeping the future from getting worse than today”
If the past is so good and today is the worst then why not learn from our mistakes and use that to have an healthy future. I held in front of you another image or mirror but it matters in making the picture complete.. So lets stop here with looking at the past and make today the rest of the future.
Best wishes
