It is a crazy month this October but we ended up here today on the 3^rd Friday. As with most Fridays it will be a music post one with new or maybe lesser known artist that I think stand out. It is keeping the ears open to try something different and an artist that does something that is not as the pop culture as it is today. So Today I have some artist lined up who dare to be different and still sound rock solid or super cool or just have you swing on the music.

I will start with Dance this time as the dance scene is not what most people think of it. I mean it isn’t Lady Gaga who by the way I think is not that great to begin with. No I rather listen to like last month dance music from Franc Benz an artist who is himself instead of doing what is demanded or to commercial.

So in the list we have Kypski. A DJ with a forgotten skill and knowing just how to mix it into this music; Scratching. It sounds so easy to force a record past the needle and sliding a slider back and forth. But it is an art from the old vinyl days when rap was hot and new. Started as a duo C-mon & Kypski they had a great success, now doing it on his own and killing it. His newest album out now. Homepage or Wiki.

Next we see a Dutch artist and actress who just had her second album coming out. Her style is something in the trend of jazzy-pop. Her name is Hadewych Minis and mixing not impressive jams and accords to a smooth whole is a joy to the ears. Surely one to give a try. Homepage or Wiki.

This lady is something special, with her voice so strong powerful and with a vibrato that will have you blow your mind. I took it upon me to use a live performance and do not be fooled by her looks. Her music is one you have to have on your music device. As it is unlike anything you will have heard. I think she is phenomenal, so look her up under the name LP. A must listen to. Homepage or Wiki.

And there we have Mat Kearney and true he has been going for some time now but still hasn’t reached the true stardom he should have. With clever and great lyrics and music that is easy to listen to it is a shame so few have truly heard of him. Often mistaken for Coldplay he has a great voice and makes great music. I find him more pure in every aspect, the music is closer to his heart. Give him a listen and I am sure you will feel its purity. Homepage or Wiki.

Almost at the end with only one studio album on their name it is time for Kodaline. A band who was once called 21Demands. A Irish rock band in a style that always had my attention. Soft rock with a hint of pop, simplicity and bringing that all to a sound that just takes you on a journey. It could be U2 meeting the Simple Minds. Homepage or Wiki.

Last I have two clips of a band and a solo artist. Call them tips of maybe upcoming artists.
Sheela van der Weert a young lady who is trying to break through with her own written songs and music. This was her chance and debut on our national TV. After that we have a band that creates rockabilly from known songs. They are fun and for me it hard to keep still. I give you Liptease & the Backstreet Crackbangers.

Shocking Blue! Music Friday

Fourth Friday of the month and that means we have a music post on our hands. Today another Dutch band, who so happened to have had a Number one hit in the US. They are a band with a lead singer who was considered a hot lady in those times. Pretty face for sure. Like most Dutch rock bands they to come from the town I was born in, playing a progressive  kind of rock. Their biggest hit is without a doubt ‘Venus’ and it was Nirvana who covered their song ‘Love Buzz’. The lead vocalist Mariska Veres died December 2006 due to cancer at the age of 59.

Golden Earring!

4th Friday of the month and another Ode to some – in my opinion – great music artists I grew up with or simply love listening to. They are a Dutch band who had 2 songs in top 15 in the US. ‘Radar Love’ in 1976 if I remember and in 1982 there was ‘Twilight zone’ aka ‘When the bullet hits the bone’. So enjoy a compilation of lyrics to a poem made.
