Music Friday: The Nits!
Being Dutch one does not have a lot to choose from if your find the Dutch songs boring and dull. There are only a few that made the lyrics in English. The Nits are that kind of band ad being from the Netherlands they became a part of my music encyclopaedia so to speak. The sound is Unlike most Dutch from that time but had a lot better feel to it. Riding on New Wave and alternative they set an example for future Dutch musicians.
It might have made me be the quirky dude in school for liking different sounds than the popular pop and Rap scene that was taking centre stage when growing up. And even today the music sounds different among all the others. As always Ii am using their lyrics to create something different. A poem, though their lyrics are challenging I hope you can enjoy it.
Somebody whispers ‘Hello’ I don’t know
Too many words after so many miles.
You better not forget
To put heart
In front of head
I was walking home alone
The traffic light in the falling rain
The unanswered phone
I was so sad and lonely
On a lonesome Avenue.
She was standing there for hours
And then someone told her
It is closed
Bureaucrat tie and hat
Disappearing like a ghost.
Roll on like a stone in a field
I’ve got a home but I’ve got no shield
There’s a fire in
A fire in my head.
So many reasons to be afraid
Afraid of the darkness
Afraid of the light
Right behind her in revolving doors
In the window of a passing train
Talking shadow in a telephone box
I was running
She was walking
It was one of those rainy days
I was looking
She was turning
Suddenly I met your face
I met a woman in a valley of stone
She was painting roses on the walls of her hame.
And the moon is a coin with the head of the queen –
Of the Dutch mountains.
I do have only one song for you. There are more and i could recommend “Nescio”. Do give it a listen it is a simple melody that at least relaxes me every time.
