Ben-to: Publishing a Novel 7
While the train ride is progressing Satou is being confined to that tiny corner. The compartment they were seated was filled with an uncomfortable atmosphere. Oshiroi fiddling with her fingers, as Shiraume was attending to the bows she tied into the hair for this occasion.
Across them sat Sen reading a book and being her usual calm straight forward self. Shaga has moved her self in a corner across Satou, trying to speak but was only stuttering, feeling uneasy for sure. “N-nice weather huh…?” Her gaze straight after returning to the passing trees.
His face plastered against the window and steaming it up wit his breath as he would try to answer, he sees his view changing in an instant. The green mountain’s landscape with vibrant colours from growing wild flowers and glistening water streams reflecting the sun disappeared from sight by a large glass construction mirroring the train that was slowly coming to a halt.
They reached their destination.
Satou cracked every bone in his body twisting himself as an contortionist with snake like skills soon as he was freed from his predicament and walked out of the train like a wrinkled rag. “That feels good…”
“But… but Shiraume… They did ask for him to..”
His back is arched all the way back looking up and seeing the trees of glass and steel towering above them, reflecting the bright sky. Above him a face appeared.
-“What is up Shiraume?”
“I do not acknowledge you. And you better be like a ghost. You are not here are you?” Shiraume is looking down on Satou, who strains his back to keep in this position and not get back up and bump his head.
-“uhm how am I suppose to do that?”
“You can carry these. Won’t you? Of course you would.” The suitcases that confined him in the corner are dropped and bury him underneath them. Leaving but a foot and an arm, compulsively trembling in an aching manner.
The ladies start the walk across the street leaving Satou behind who does his best to pick up all the suitcases. Shaga picks up a beauty case and pushes her glasses back up on her nose. “Come one big boy, we are going to leave you behind…” And walks of with Sen beside her.
With suitcases clenched under his arms and hands gripping two more suitcases Satou starts his pursuit. Legs spread to uphold the cases under his arm he wobbles forward. Unaware of the people whispering as he walks by them.
He is relieved when he reached the hotel Shiraume had booked for Oshiroi and herself. To have a busboy take the cases and place them on a trolley to take up to their room had him sigh a breathe of relieve. He was told to wait for them to come back down and go down to the publisher.
From one of the sofa’s standing in the lounge Sen was over hearing a couple of man talk about a bento event being held close by. He held up the poster giving Sen an opportunity to gain a look at the place and time.
‘Bento Brawl, the Saitou story.’
