Monday Moaning: Capturing Freedom!
Yeah it is another title that can be interpreted many ways. Can we take a hold on freedom or maybe try and find out what it is? Are we as free, as one thinks or are we captured by the word. They are questions I may have asked before. As to determine whether we have or had free will. I think the picture works very well to show a little of what it means.
When we ask people what freedom means to them, there are different answers as there are many different people. Most of the time the answer might be to be able to do as you please without hurting anyone else with it. I do like that one personally, yet what does that entail or mean. When we take a closer look it isn’t all that.
Doing as one pleases is pretty easy to understand but the second part of that lovely answer in my eyes holds a grim cloud over the first part. As if ready to strike you down when you do something to hurt others. So why do we say it? Why do we so believe in freedom?
If one would e asking what freedom would mean to me, I could not give you an answer. My opinion based on my life would pretty much suggest I do not know as I have never lived in it. T as a westerner that is like a betrayal to government and to my fellow countrymen. They would surely argue thatwe live in the land of freedom.
Since we are free to believe whatever religion, can speak our mind with our freedom of speech. Can buy anything we love to have. And so much more.
Yeah okay if that is freedom to you.
Let me try and explain why I could not agree with it in the terms of freedom. As I am living that same life I sort of HAVE to. And this is where freedom takes a turn, the case of ‘having to’. Not saying you are all wrong, since I will respect your opinion as your own and you of all people are also entitled to one. It does not hurt me.
Mind that last bit as it will return in this post a couple of times.
To have a religion that is not my own is also fine by me. Personally I do not have one or multiple ones bound together. Either way what you believe does not hurt me.
There is a bell ringing, can you hear it.
It also shows freedom is something different to an individual. Not once is it the same. It begs to question if there is an ultimate kind of freedom. Ad when we start with that we automatically fall into the category of gradations. And weighing of what we like to believe. Changing our perspective to suit our need or want. The clearest example of the ladder are our different countries.
Can we even determine freedom to be real. I am pretty sure we in this day and age, we never really tasted freedom. Okay maybe I have just a little and it is a scary place as things taught keep haunting you as you become an animal yourself.
Freedom: to do as one pleases without hurting anyone else.
It sounds so beautiful and perfect.
To be strong may hurt the weak. So they should protect. Wait… should…. we?
To walk on the street naked is a form of expression that might hurt someone, So you should put on some clothes. Wait… Should … I do what.
Simple but effective. If you like to walk across the street naked, does not hurt me. I respect your choice. Yet others find it offensive they cannot not respect your choice of freedom. What if one chooses not to protect the weak but just be strong chopping his own wood for a fireplace. Minding his own business. It would not hurt me the weaker guy.
Who need protecting anyways if we do not hurt others. And in this lies that grim over hanging cloud. Because we do hurt.
And because we do we have set boundaries and borders to distinguish ourselves from what other may call freedom. But being encased by rules and laws how can that be freedom. We hav found ways to always keep ourselves bound and away from true freedom.
We have expectations that needs people to adept to your view. How free is one if they have to listen and follow up on an expectation.
The rules and laws that keep us from walking naked when we choose to is to create a uniform whole. A country where are all alike or being treated the same. Where we are taught to respect others yet tell them to behave like yourself.
It is strange how we perceive freedom and live it. We feel our freedom is under fire by another religion. Who do as they please (see fit according to their holy book) and hurt others. To respect others is what they are taught as well. Being told to wear clothes just so you would not offend others is offending your choice and right of freedom to do as you please. And then there is the perfect bond to binds us all together and take away our freedom is money. Because without money we can’t go anywhere do anything. It is like the bribe we pay to keep someone happy or not hurt him when we take his apples.
So doing as we please and not hurting is the ultimate freedom. And all but a dream.
Our nature like that of the animals dictate that only the strongest survive. We changed that to the wealthiest. Bound by rules and laws we live a life of a certain freedom composed by those who had it all in the first place.
Can I ask you again, what does freedom mean to you.
What if I told you that walking the lands, eating what grows there and not having money was my freedom. Tasting not to be bound by anything other that the laws that haunted me and still do. Feeling hunted because people decided I did/do not fit in. Hunted for expressing myself as such with opinions that may hurt people. When I say that woman is a whore it does not mean every woman yet a woman may be offended and hurt.
Being not to hurt but to learn, How else can I have respect for what you think is right. Tell me and share your thoughts it is a way to come close to ultimate freedom where I can respect your choices as your own. But expectations keep us from doing so. Laws and rules and teachings from early ages keep us form doing so. As everything we think or do might be in conflict of someone out there, or so we are told. And as much as we are taught to respect others for their choices we never learn to respect our self and our choices let alone feel respected for the way we are and want to be.
Do as you please without hurting others. That is what freedom should be.
That dark grim cloud is our society keeping us form doing as such and live in freedom. We are to stubborn and always offended by something. People who want it a certain way and expect it to be followed. Our expectations are higher than ever before and that is thanks to the one thing I decided not to address in this post. The Media. It is one to question how much influence they have on our views and ideas.
Just two cents worth of rant.
Best Wishes
