Born Robert Alllen Zimmerman, but we all know him as Bob Dylan. He needs little introduction in the world of music. I am even taken over by a little bit of fear using bits and pieces of his lyrics to create something new. In the hope I can honour a musician I grew up with.
His folk music later turning electric was often having a political or other social background as well as being inspired by other poets. Distinquishing himself the way he uses his own voice makes his music a one of a kind. Storytelling with an imagery that blows you away each time you carefully listen. He is an icon in the music scene in my fair opinion and his music will always be one who stays current even in this present time.
Well, I’m walkin’ down the highway
With my suitcase in my hand
And I, I walk out on my own
A thousand miles from home
I walked down there and ended up
In one of them coffee-houses on the block
Up on the white veranda
She wears a necktie and a Panama hat
Her passport shows another face
From another time and place
Precious angel, under the sun
How was I to know you’d be the one
To show me I was blinded, to show me I was gone
How weak was the foundation I was standing upon ?
It probably wouldn’t matter to you anyhow
You left me standin’ in the doorway cryin’
I got nothing to go back to now.
I am a man of constant sorrow
I’ve seen trouble all my days
One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee ‘fore I go.
Gonna put my good foot forward
And stop being influenced by fools.
I’m driftin’ in and out of dreamless sleep
Throwin’ all my memories in a ditch so deep
Did so many things I never did intend to do
Well, I’ve tried to get closer but I’m still a million miles from you.
Well, my sense of humanity has gone down the drain
Behind every beautiful thing there’s been some kind of pain
She wrote me a letter and she wrote it so kind
She put down in writin’ what was in her mind
Well, it’s way past midnight
And there’s some people all around
Some on their way up, some on their way down
The air burns and I’m tryin’ to think straight
An’ I don’t know how much longer I can wait.
You don’t understand it, my feelin’ for you
You’d be honest with me if you only knew
The clouds are turning crimson, the leaves fall from the limbs and
The branches cast their shadows over stone
Won’t you meet me out in the moonlight alone
Well, I’ve walked two hundred miles, look me over
It’s the end of the chase and the moon is high
While I’m sittin’ on my watch so I can be on time
I’m singin’ love’s praises with sugar coated rhyme
In the stillness of the midnight
Precious memories sacred scenes unfold.
When I’m all alone
In the great unknown
I’ll remember you.
I’ve torn my clothes and I’ve drained the cup
Strippin’ away at it all
Thinking of you when the sun comes up
Where teardrops fall.
