How does one not remember growing up listening to her music. Gospel and soul moved a heart with ease giving her the title, Queen of Soul. She is one of my favourites female singers.
After adding some jazz and R&B to her repertoire she took of to great heights. We all know the big hits, we even today, can still sing a long from the top of our lungs. Think and Respect do not even need an introduction. She was a master of all due to her control over her voice, being able to make it fit perfectly with any song or genre.
Today she still is the Queen of Soul and for that I took it upon me to try and create something new from her own lyrics.
I can only hope I done her words right.
You better think,
think about what you’re trying to do to me.
Because I’m not livin’, baby, I only exist
I’ll never laugh, I’ll never smile no more
Don’t care if I stay like this, because
Without the one you love, life is not worthwhile
But I’m in there fighting everyday
because I got a few more dreams in me.
And I wonder will the day come when every man
with a heartbeat will knows that he’s free?
There been things all of my life
I wanted to do that made me blue;
Help me hold onto this dream,
for sometimes, dreams often come true
My heart is without a home
I don’t want to be alone
I gotta find me an angel
In my life, in my life
If you look into your heart
With a positive mind
Take some inventory
Of your woman and your glory
Leave the bad things behind
There is no fighting
Scandal or shame
Uh, he really moves me
Drives me insane
A do you feel like dancin?
Get up and let’s start dancin’
Start gettin’ the spirit
Spirit in the dark
Step n’ move your hips
With a feelin’ from side to side
Sit yourself down in your car
And take a ride
It means so much to me
For us to find each other’s love
And I’ll keep on trying
Under the sun that shines above
Because when you need my love
And I give time after time
And turn around to find me no returns
Then, my friend, you’ve used my dimes
We’ve got each other’s love and understanding,
And that’s what it takes to make love grow…
We’ve got our strength, and our love for all mankind,
But most of all, we’ve got peace of mind.
We were stash and young
Second to none
coming on up, the right way
Those were the days
that was the way
things in the 50’s
were done now.
Without any further ado I leave you with her greatest on video and a live Performance from 2013 age 72 if I am not mistaking.
