Monday Moaning: Engineering Life
Good afternoon, evening or even morning to some. Before anything else let me say what I write is in my head, what I know may be from a long time ago. The thing is that in the past decade I seen loads of new illnesses popping up. Or maybe we finally acknowledging illnesses and giving those names.
But is it just me or are the deceases evolving worse and worse. Where we had a plague we now have ALS or new sorts of cancer as it keep evolving. TBC/Tuberculosis is still occurring sporadic in some countries. We also have leprosy something we know from the very old days and is still occurring since we have not find a cure or cause.
And this is strange when the doorbell is ringing again and somebody out there is shaking there oversized locked mug for some money. Collecting for illnesses only and primarily found in our western culture. And it is not that we have one for cancer no we got a dozen since we have different kinds all together.
No not saying, it is a bad thing that we do those marathons or walks where we hope to help those in need of answers. And I am saying answers since I do not believe in a cure as much. This is as mentioned above, we do see more illnesses and new illnesses and we always seek cures how can we cure this.
Mind you a cure cost the patient money. And finding a cure is making the industry make money of those ill, making profits from your despair and agony. Should it not be better for all of us to find a cause and eliminate that?
It does come with a lot of questions as scientist maybe trying to do so by examining DNA. Seeking the cause at the human and blaming them most likely when they missing a chromosome.
I am saying all these things because it does have me think that in our culture where we consume more additives in our foods and play with unnatural product in daily life, may well also be a cause.
Since we are putting more pressure on work and making it we also saw an increase in mental health issues. Where we pop a pill for something as small as a headache or a cold or have full body scans and blood work when we sweat too much. Are we not getting overworked?
Who knows I don’t know for sure as we also try to create gadgets to loosen up the work load by having computers and robots do our jobs. Though that be straining and stressing those without a job who could do that as well. It is kind of like we are plugging holes with what we are cutting out elsewhere.
Yes maybe we should be focussing on the causes instead of trying to find a cure and keep an industry making money on plugging holes. In the meantime those people who really do benefit from meds should pay a little less. They never asked to get sick and they sure as hell never asked to get high overpriced meds. We should help these people not have them worry if they can pay their bill and make it another month. It only adds to the stress and is not helping when they need a new med for that.
And what is up with all those side effects. Or long term use effects that will cause people to need more meds. Should we really charge them money for that?
And now there is again big news about the Ebola virus. From what I remember in biology class and that be like 20 odd years ago, which was from my understanding also the last BIG outbreak. Is that it is a virus that adepts really quick to new medicine and can hibernate for a long period of time as well. We are now asking money for a new cure, again I might add. A medicine for a virus that can evolve faster than we can do research and a virus that pops up once in a while killing lots of people.
So as wrong as I can be it makes one wonder where it comes from, once a decade. We already know new strains are born quickly soon as we administer the new meds, and they will most likely lay dormant for a decade again.
And the flu does so to but less aggressive. And so may be our new illnesses as well.
And should we really want to dig into DNA so that later in life we can engineer a perfect human. Are we going to follows Hitler’s example? Harsh to say but he did have that idea and he did give orders to examine. Blonde and blue eyes were perfect in his eyes, so they search for ways of achieving that.
And that is a dilemma. Because what he did was wrong but what we do now is okay. I can go to my southern neighbours in a certain clinic and ask for certain specifications in a baby. Do we want a full DNA in graphic detail so we can eliminate illnesses that way, or even when we see parts missing, knowing a child will have a illness, terminate the pregnancy. Where will we stop finding eternal and healthy lives? What are we truly afraid of if we go this far.
Is it having us forget all ethics and reasoning? Are we so obsessed with eternal life that we lose sight and our connection with where we came from? Being nature, where most just happens for a reason. Yes that may be a philosophical look on things, but science sure isn’t helping much either in this department as they may have well been the cause of what we see today.
Just a moan on this Monday.
