The fishy Lighthouse! Part 19
He walks over to a small mirror above the white sink and stares deep into his own eyes. The rounded face of a cat stares back at him, with the amber glowing eyes. The colours blending so perfectly, browns, blacks, oranges and whites, topped with a black nose. Cheeks are puffy like that of a hamster having black whiskers extending from them. His paw reaches for the flat shiny surface and pets across it.
Through his mind all kinds of things start picking up speed and creating a whirlwind of thoughts. ‘This is me now. A cat, having to leave my sister behind in the real world. But this is now my real world, this is all real. I am no longer in Kansas.’
His smile shows his sharp teeth, unfolding each shine razor sharp nail, one by one. ‘I am still William Bonneville.’ A splash of water reaches up from the filled swashing bowl. I was wrong to sneer at Kitty like that’

On the other side of town near a great wall, trouble was only just beginning. The stream of fresh fish stopped completely and the cats guarding the station were running around in an uproar. No more fish means prices will go up, cats will die of hunger. All alarms were ringing and a messenger was sending of to the king. Priority one.
The King knew about the trouble, he even asked for William’s help. Little did even he know that it would be so soon?
For some time now they have tried conserving fish, but it just never lasted long. Scientists, biologists though only in name searched for answers. Breeding fish in tanks, it worked but for some reason it was never enough.
Building that great sea or lake but fish kept dying just the same and nobody knew why or what the cause was. They knew the Lighthouse would be vulnerable. The corner stone of this whole fishing operation, pumping fish underground through tunnels to surface in a station in Paris.
Would a tunnel have collapsed? Franticly cats read survive reports looking for entries that indicate when last checked. They did not do it very often as they were afraid to enter the small boats and pull themselves along to a half way station. Spending the night outside those great protective walls in dog territory was not something they did for fun.
Cats are a proud breed, fearless even, but not when it comes to water. Then even they get scared. A turn in events can cause them to man up but only a few follow through. But it doesn’t make it easy.
Nobody could imagine that today everything was set in motion. The future of Paris, McSniff, William and even the king, it is changing. Barks stopped and howls filled the morning air. Having everyone in Paris hold their breath.
