Heart Ship! The quest for forbidden love.
The ship draws closer and it becomes clear on the make and what they would want. After the second sail and a steer in the directions I want to go. I find myself being followed. The flag of the Union Jack in all its glory waving in the air. Their ship is faster catching more wind in their sails. Soon as they draw so close to me as to see individual faces on deck. Watching them run across the boards, swinging through the ropes they lift their sails.
Voices yelling to lift mine and I wave for some help. Ships cracking as they touch side to side.4 men come swinging and are fast at raising my sails up. Making the ships come to a slow hold. Their we drift I the middle of a water world. With that that small inlet left way behind me and the land of destination not in sight. With a straight back and feathered head walks on deck and stands along the rail. His hand gesturing to come over.
Facing him it comes clear why they are here. As of why they wanted me and check the lower parts of my ship. His face is rigid just like his pose. Asking straight forward questions and keeping a sharp eye on my honesty. Smuggling has become a issue and they suspected me from keeping illegal wares hidden. I know I have hauled illegal stuff. But not now I left them behind. Did they give me up because I didn’t want to a run for them. It would not be the first time. The men are fast and come back up head shaking. They found nothing of importance.
The hours are lost, lost time I cannot make up. Lost time I cannot be with her. Those who walked my ship find their way back and get back to do their work. They release my ship and take in the ropes and hooks. No help this time to lower the sails, just leaving. Slowly moving ahead with more and more sails they open. The wind has become stronger. Maybe, just maybe it will be my lucky day. As the sky turns a mix of whites and grey. Colours at the top of the mast flow wilder.
Need to get fast on the feet and have my sails catch the strong breezes to bring me across to where I want to be. Waves growing taller and walking becomes more difficult. As the sun sets there is no beauty to be seen, of fiery skies. Just grey clouds getting darker. And a ocean getting wilder. Night of long waking hours at the wheel await me, keeping me and my ship safe in these treacherous waters. First drop of water hits me right under the eye, rolling further down my cheek. Maybe, yes I though maybe and I thought wrong. Mother nature does not agree with me today.
But a deep breath gets me focussed on tasks at hand. I will not heel over that easy. I set my mind to being with her. Creating a new life in another country.
